Motorhomes at Glencaple Quay
Motorhomers welcome to share our historic Quay at Glencaple, in our beautiful village location or at Castle Corner a few miles south!
Consideration for locals, other visitors and the environment is a must.
Thanks to Caerlaverock Estate, Castle Corner is 3 miles south in a lovely woodland setting and has some facilities for your use.
All donations go towards Caerlaverock Community Association’s work locally.

South West Scotland Environmental Information Centre (SWSEIC) (was DGERC) manages information on the flora, fauna, geology and other aspects of D&Gs natural environment. They promote and encourage recording in the region as well as providing access to high quality wildlife and habitat information which is available to all.

Nith Inshore Rescue is an independent lifeboat serving the Dumfries area, based in Glencaple. Registered Charity (number SC022223), they are a one of many independent lifeboats around the coast of Britain who are not part of the RNLI.
BPI Plastic Recycling
BPI Recycled Products are the largest recycler in Europe and can reprocess over 95,000 tonnes of post-use material each year!
They can recycle farm films, such as bale wrap and crop cover that would otherwise go into landfill or be burnt. The film produced is exceptionally strong; they also make a range of refuse sacks and Plaswood – a no maintenance, cost effective alternative to concrete, steel and wood – well worth a look!
Our local branch collects and recycles polythene film. You can take our local branch your clean household waste polythene – its not just for commercial/ farm use! They also sell the recycled products making it easy to do your bit in both recycling and buying responsibly (locally)!

Bogus callers
Scottish Water’s recent ‘3 Cs’ advice – Card, Check and Call – applies to all callers at the door!
All genuine callers will be happy to show you their card and wait while you check it. Ask them to post it through the letter box to avoid opening the door. You should check that the photo on the card matches your visitor, that there is a valid helpline number to call and that it is not tampered with in any way.
If you have any doubts, contact the company – use the phone directory or internet – not the number on the card as it may be false. If you are not entirely satisfied, post the card back to them and say something polite but firm e.g. ‘not today thank you!’ and if you are suspicious, contact a neighbour or call the police. The head office in Dumfries is the base for many specialist services including the In Court Advice Project, the Patient Advice and Support Service, Kinship Care, Homelessness, Money Advice, the Prison Project and Support4Life which is a welfare benefits service predominantly but not exclusively for people with long term health conditions. Flood Product Subsidy Scheme
The council ‘flood product subsidy scheme’ offers a free flood survey for your property. It also allows residents and businesses to buy protective items at a subsidised cost.
Items include door barriers, temporary air vent/ air brick covers and an easily stored alternative to sandbags.

Reporting Road Faults
Dumfries and Galloway Council encourage everyone to report damage to roads, or roads e.g.obscured by debris washed from fields.
If we all phone in to report issues on the roads, hopefully they will be cleared and fixed sooner than later!

The Post Office in Glencaple currently operates from the Barbour Hall on Church Street, (opposite the school).
Opening hours:
Tuesdays and Thursday
from about 2.30 until 4.30 p.m.

Post parcels, buy stamps, withdraw money etc.
Free Bus Passes for Older People
You can travel free on buses across Scotland if you are 60 or over and live in Dumfries and Galloway. Services from here to Carlisle are also free!
You can complete an application form at any council customer service centre.
You will need: a photograph, proof of age and proof of address
Assisted applications are also available, where staff check documents, take a photograph, complete an electronic application and order your bus pass straightaway.
Your bus pass should arrive (to the address provided) within 2 weeks.
ICE – In Case of Emergency
To enable police or paramedics to get in touch with relatives In Case of an Emergency, add the prefix ‘ICE’ to those people/ contacts in your mobile phone.

Solway Flood Warning Scheme
You can now sign up for advance warning of where and when flooding will occur along the ‘Nith Tidal’ area. The scheme has been set up to help local communities (and for areas where travel may be disrupted).
