Thank you to Alison Robertson for sending us this photograph and thoughts of the old oak tree which very sadly came down in the recent high winds… You can’t help but wonder the creatures big and small it had harboured, and the changes it had seen in Caerlaverock throughout the years it stood…

‘Sad to see the demise of the solitary oak which used to stand in fields to the right as you start up the Quay Hill. Unsure whether ex-hurricane Ophelia did the damage or whether Ophelia perhaps loosened it and Saturday’s high winds finally toppled it. I was up the Quay Hill two days ago, on Friday afternoon, and didn’t notice it had fallen, but was quite possibly lost in thought and just didn’t notice. Either way, sad to see it go.’
